Parekh and Crew Triumph in Challenging Conditions at Patriot’s Point

Charleston Race Week 2026 marked a milestone, celebrating 30 years of world-class sailing at Patriot’s Point Race Hub from April 16-19. The regatta delivered exciting racing, especially in the VX One class, where the conditions tested every crew’s skill and strategy.

Congratulations to Tej Trevor Parekh and his crew for securing the regatta win in the VX One class! Parekh, a regular competitor from Quebec City, soared to the top of the standings with a spectacular Saturday performance, winning two races right out of the gate. The Canadian skipper also posted a fourth place and, thanks to the regatta’s scoring rules, was able to drop an eighth from Race 1, solidifying his lead.

Finishing just behind Parekh, Pete Marriott and his crew sailed consistently to clinch second place in the regatta, while John Porter and his crew rounded out the podium in third.

“Everyone will admit that it was extremely challenging conditions today. It demands that everyone have their head out of the boat looking for wind,” he explained. “It’s very much about keeping your eyes on the puffs as far away as possible to see where the wind is coming from,” comments Parekh.

This year’s crew lineup brought some changes for Parekh’s boat, which has traditionally been named Bro Safari in honor of his best friend Mark. For 2026, Charleston natives Madeline Baldridge (driving) and Abby Goodness (bow) joined the team, inspiring Parekh to rename the boat Bae Safari—a nod to the new crew composition!
