Sail how you like and with who.. in a VX Two

The new, double-handed, VX Two hiking-skiff incorporates some cool new features but there’s one that could be a game changer for current and future double-handed partnerships.

Sailing competitively in a One Design Class often means you need to find a partner based on an ideal weight combination. Unfortunately for some, this means not being able to sail with your preferred teammate or, if you do, then not sailing as competitively as you could.

However the VX Two offers a new system to solve the limitations around ideal weight range.

Although little in size, the Spreader Rake Adjustor© makes a big difference to extending the ideal weight range for combined crew weight by accurately matching your sails to the mast.

What is it

The Spreader Rake Adjustor© (SRA) enables the angle of the carbon spreaders to be changed on shore, which in effect creates different mast bends and different power settings for the rig.

The system is encapsulated inside the carbon spreader, making the spreader very streamlined and tidy.

Different angled SRA chocks can be swapped out to suit the rake you desire. The Spreader comes with five different rake angle options that give a huge 12.8deg of range. You can even customize it further yourself to get an infinite number of rake options.

How the spreader rake adjustor works

Unlike many One-Design classes, the VX Two allows measurement-controlled sails which means sailors can have their sails made by any sail maker.

This allows teams to have the sails cut to suit their crew weight and sailing style.

Enter the Spreader Rake Adjuster which is used to change the mast bend. This gives the sailmaker more freedom to tailor sails to best suit a teams individual sailing needs and allows teams to optimize their tuning in different conditions to keep themselves competitive through the full range of conditions.

Most teams will find the one setting that suits their sails and use that in all conditions. Those that like to fiddle can fine tune for the daily conditions.

Using the spreader rake adjuster is straighforward. To change the angle, the spreader is removed from the mast and a SRA chock is attached onto the spreader arm tang. The Spreader Rake Adjustor comes with three different SRA chocks. Each chock creates either a + or – angled position. Teams can make their own custom chocks to fine tune further if needed.
